Broken Cell Phones & Customer Service

The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand. Psalms 37:23-25 NLT

Earlier in the week my oldest accidently dropped her phone thus crushing her ability to communicate with the outside world via her cell phone. Trust me this was not the ideal situation for a 13-year-old young lady. I set up an old phone for her to temporarily use until I could get her a new one.

I had seen she was eligible for an upgrade anyways so this should have made the process fairly easy. The next day, I went online, ordered her a new phone, did the verify ID thing on my phone about 5 PM and carried on throughout the rest of my day.

About 9 PM I got an email from my service provider. I was expecting it to read, “Congratulations your new device is on its way.” Oh, heavens no this was not the case. It was saying, “we apologize for the inconvenience, but your order has been cancelled due to the inability to verify your identity.” I was a bit frustrated.

So the next day, I went online, tried to do the order again online, did the verify ID thing again and it was accepted. I thought cool deal Lucile. We are all set and ready to go. Except about an hour later I thought I was in the movie “Groundhog Day” because the same thing happened!! The order was cancelled!!

I called my service provider’s phone number for customer service and the lady on the other end apologized for the inconveniences I was experiencing. She proceeded to tell me she was going to get my order going again but I’d have it Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately, when you’re divorced and share custody you do not have the luxury of having your kids all week to wait for something to come in. Mama knew she was going to have to use her lunch break to go the phone store to purchase a phone.

I walked my frustrated grumpy behind to my truck, drove the 10 minutes to the store, purchased the phone and was back on my merry little way to my office.

When my daughter was out of school, I told her mama got her a new one from the store so she’d have it before going to her dad’s for the weekend.

The message I was sent in return said, “I literally prayed about this in mentorship today. That’s God right there.”

I smiled.

Even though I had a very frustrating time obtaining the tangible device I saw that the conventional way of obtaining it was being denying for a reason. He was wanting to prove to my daughter that prayer was real and that He heard her. Even if it was for something a silly as a phone. My frustration turned to pure joy at that moment.

We may not always understand everything or see the bigger picture but God sure does. I pray for you to see God in the simple details even if you don’t quite understand His reasonings just yet. The Lord really is in the details.

Be blessed and have a wonderful weekend.
