Easy doesn’t mean right
Down here in south Texas it is a dreary rainy day. Perfect for cuddling up in cozy blanket, cool house and rain on a tin roof. However, it is terrible when you need to feed the farm and getting kids out of the house for school drop offs.
Typically, our drop consists of me parking, my oldest gets out first to go to class and then I’ll go in second with my little one. I can’t just drop her off, there’s a process to get her to in the door. With the torrential rains that blessed our land today I decided to drop them both off under the awning. Then I’d go park and then walk up. There is a driveway that spirals around the school that circles to the awning. This is also the right way to do drop off. I might be ok bending certain rules like having an extra little Debbie snack cake or staying up a little later past bed time. Overall though I’m usually a stickler for following the rules.
Turning off of the highway to the school making my way down the back driveway, my daughter quickly says, “Ugh mom why don’t you go around the front is faster? Other people do it, why can’t we?” I laughed and said, “Just because it is faster and easier still doesn’t make it right and WE are not other people.”
She grumbled some more complaints and before she knew it, we were at the awning to drop them off. Sure, it would have shaved off a few seconds, but we were not pressed for time and it still wasn’t the right thing to do.
I couldn’t help but think what a perfect example of what scripture says about being a follower. In Romans 12:2 the bible talks about this very thing.
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Surely, I could have taken the easy way to the front but I would have made the school administration a little annoyed and may have gotten an email stating the frustration later on today. Easy doesn’t also mean right.
I pray that whatever situation arises when you are called to make a choice regardless of it anyone notices or not that you stay true to who you are called to be. This goes for me as well.
Y’all have a great week and be safe in this weather!!
