Sunflowers
Sunflowers are these tall, bold, vibrant, distinctive yet unique flowers. They actually land in the top ten of world’s tallest flowers topping out somewhere around 15 feet.
These medicinal beauties are sun trackers and symbolize loyalty. In the mornings they face the east and will follow the direction of the sun all the way until dusk. When the sun stops shining, they slowly turn back towards the east awaiting the warm glow of a morning sunrise.
When the season turns cooler in the autumn or when they are mature with age, they will only remain to the east ceasing to turn ever again. After the yellow petals fade and the vibrant seeds turn the color of shadows, insects, wind and time will spread their legacy for future growing seasons.
In a sense we are Son trackers. Following the loyalty forged by our faith that God would take care of us even through the night. Allowing us to hope and find joy once again in the morning.
Psalms 30:1-5
I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up
and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
2 O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
and you have healed me.
3 O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol;
you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.[a]
4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,
and give thanks to his holy name.[b]
5 For his anger is but for a moment,
and his favor is for a lifetime.[c]
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
It is difficult to stand tall and boldly when everything around us wants to pull us down into the dirt. Distractions, disagreements, un-resolved issues with loved ones and the list goes on. I know it does personally for me.
So what if it does temporarily. What if for a bit you get a little dehydrated spiritually, mentally, physically. It may even happen more than one time. Life is hard, sticky messy and just really sucks sometimes.
But we have an amazing master gardener who tends to our hearts who will water us with what we need in order to stand tall once again and thrive.
Though I may not know your circumstances, nor you mine but I will pray for you this week and I ask that you do the same for me.
Have a wonderfully blessed week.
