But I wanna be done Mom
7 But you, be strong and do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded!”
2 Chronicles 15:7
Yesterday my youngest had softball practice in the evening. Now, it is nearly September and we are still in the middle of experiencing extreme Texas heat of over 110 most days. She decided after her second practice circuit she needed a potty break.
Her shoulders were slumped over and then the complaining started. I knew she was well hydrated hence the potty break so I knew she wasn’t overheated. As we made our apparently “long journey that was taking forever” to the potty she said I’m done for today mom. Then she followed it with, “I can’t do anymore.”
Had I not been keeping tabs on how much she was drinking and snacking on maybe I would have thought, “Ok she’s overheated she really does need to be done.” However, I knew practice only had about ten minutes left, she really was physically fine, and a short minute potty break would probably re-charge her batteries to persevere until the end of practice.
I will say in her defense the heat was brutal and I totally understood wanting to be done running and being in the heat. I knew she could push through just a little longer until the end of practice.
So, I did what any parent says to their kiddo when they see the bigger picture, “Hun I know you’re tired and hot but you’ve got this. You’re almost done and yes you can finish practice.” Again, she complained and again I encouraged her to finish out practice and she absolutely could do it. Instead of getting frustrated with her saying that over and over, I offered my understanding and then some encouragement.
Sometimes that is difficult to do when you’re in a situation you want to be done with too. God deals with us in the same manner I dealt with my youngest. He offers us His graceful understanding and then encouragement from the word.
This season is a little more difficult than the last one. She moved from t-ball up to 6U which is where she is actually pitched a ball to hit. It is a much harder of a skill to learn verses hitting off a tee. She was one of the last batters to hit yesterday and she finally got a piece of the ball on her bat and was so excited! She persevered, finished practice and was rewarded for her hard work that day.
Don’t give up sweet reader even when you want to. I know it is extremely difficult in certain seasons of life when the heat of situations is extreme. Listen to the peaceful voice of God encouraging you to keep moving forward and leaning on Him. Your perseverance will be rewarded too.
