Coach or Ump?
“31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31

I have so enjoyed watching my youngest play softball. Especially this season. Their team moved up from t-ball to 6U, they’re having fun and engaging with each other in new ways. They’ve learned how to hit from a pitch, throw a ball further, make team plays and run bases.
Win or lose two things are constant – the umpire and their coach are keeping tabs on them. The ump is there to be a neutral party, watch the plays and make calls for outs, balls and fouls. The umpire also keeps both teams accountable to the rulebook and is quick to call out infractions. The coach is there to encourage, change the line up, and teach the players all they need to know in order to play their best during games.
Which do you see God as? Is He your ump or your coach? Whichever way you view Him as, makes all the difference.
Before you answer that though, let me break something down from my own experience. God is not here to penalize you for your infractions.
From my experience, He is more of a coach to me. He encourages me, tells me the rules to follow and if I’m playing this game of life and I do mess up – He is gentle to correct me when I need it. I don’t always understand why He does what He does or allows certain things to happen. However, I always know He has my best interest in mind. Just like my daughter’s coach does for her.
He is for you. 100%. Just like today’s scripture says.
If you are struggling with who He is to you then I encourage you to reach out to me to talk it out. You’d have a safe space to ask all your questions and we can work that out together.
I hope you all area having an amazing fall season and I pray for y’all to have a great rest of your week.
