Don’t throw your blessings away

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26

Saturday evening, I was tending to the garden just as I do every evening after feeding the farm. I checked the water trough and headed to the water spirket to turn the water on. Along the way, I noticed in my previous burn pile, which has been leveled and mowed over, were little saplings of something pushing forth from the ground.

Upon closer examination, I saw they were tomato plants. My beds were all accounted for with fall crops so I pull them and tossed them aside.

Early Sunday, the still voice of the Holy Spirit whispered as I sipped my morning coffee. “Why are you tossing away your blessings?” I thought, what on earth? I’m diligent Lord to use your blessings accordingly, what do you mean?

“The tomato plants, daughter.”

I thought oh. I didn’t think I needed them, but with the steady warmer temperatures and cooler crops not coming up just yet, I actually did have room in my beds for them. I marched myself out that morning to find my hand shovel, picked up the plants I had discarded the evening before and proceeded to plant them.

I was easy to toss them aside because I didn’t think I needed them. However, if the Lord is blessing you with something – even if it seems small and insignificant, don’t throw away your blessings. Those blessings bring forth “fruit” and sometimes that fruit is for you or it could be for others.

I shared my little short coming with my daughters and they agreed, it was a good little lesson. Perhaps that was the seed I needed to plant for them. I know for sure it was a lesson learned for me.

I pray you see the blessings this week no matter how big or small they may be.
